Taking it to the Streets: Phoenix Launches ‘GiGi’s on the Go’

At GiGi’s, our Playhouses are like sanctuaries. Inside our walls, we offer our participants and their families more than FREE programming – we offer love, support, and acceptance.

Our 60+ Playhouses are safe havens for individuals with Down syndrome and their parents, grandparents, siblings, friends, volunteers, and the entire community. The moment anyone steps through our doors, they’re welcomed with open arms.

Our Playhouses truly are magical places – places that every society, neighborhood, and community should have at their disposal. Luckily, more and more Playhouses are opening across the country, and we’re not planning on slowing down any time soon!

But even though our brick-and-mortar locations are growing at an astounding rate, there’s still so many communities and cities that need our services and FREE programming. Thankfully, our Virtual Playhouse is expanding our reach and allowing people from all over (more than 89 countries) and new and underserved communities to access GiGi’s Playhouse at their fingertips!

Though our Virtual Playhouse is an incredible, life-changing resource, we still need in-person outreach. It’s important to physically go out into underserved areas and make them aware of GiGi’s Playhouse and our free educational, therapeutic, and career development programs.

And that’s exactly what GiGi’s Playhouse – Phoenix is doing. This September, our Phoenix Playhouse is officially rolling out their ‘GiGi’s on the Go’ program. Beginning in partnership with local school districts, ‘GiGi’s on the Go’ brings our programs directly to families and participants in need!

This program is designed to reach underserved areas near Phoenix that are a long commute from our Phoenix Playhouse. Though many in these communities could greatly benefit from our services, there’s a chance they’ve never heard of GiGi’s or cannot make the trek to the physical location; that’s where ‘GiGi’s on the Go’ comes in.

Armed with a GiGi’s-branded van, trained volunteer teams, and licensed therapists, ‘GiGi’s on the Go’ is entering schools and offering our programs, such as 1:1 tutoring and other educational and social programming, to individuals with Down syndrome!

It’s a program that has the potential to change thousands of lives – but it’s a large undertaking. Our Phoenix Playhouse could have easily stepped away from the challenge, but instead, they saw the need. They knew how many people in the community desperately needed our services, and they did what we do at GiGi’s: they stepped up.

GiGi’s Playhouse – Phoenix rose to the occasion, stepped up to the plate, and are now on the precipice of changing so many lives in Arizona! But our Phoenix Playhouse isn’t doing it alone. Legacy Foundation and Blue Cross Blue Shield saw the importance of ‘GiGi’s on the Go’ and sponsored the program, ensuring that our Phoenix Playhouse had the money and resources to develop this life-changing initiative!

‘GiGi’s on the Go’ will work alongside our Virtual Playhouse. As families in Arizona become aware of GiGi’s Playhouse and our life-changing programs, they can enroll in these programs via our virtual platform, as well as join our online communities!

Thanks to our Phoenix Playhouse, more families and individuals with Down syndrome in Arizona will get to experience the GiGi’s love, support, and acceptance.
