Change the World: Generation G is improving lives

In the summer of 2002, a little girl came into the world surrounded by love, support and … uncertainty. Her parents didn’t know how the others would perceive and welcome her, if others would even welcome her at all, let alone what her life would look like in the future. After generations of change and improvement, are things really better for individuals with Down syndrome? Will she be included at school? Will other kids invite her to the party? Will she be asked to prom? Or find love? Or employment?

These aren’t the typical questions of most parents, but GiGi Gianni is anything but typical, regardless of her extra chromosome! She has been the spark that drove her family, led by our Chief Belief Officer Nancy Gianni, to open and then see 20 years of the exponential growth of physical spaces where individuals like GiGi can be accepted, celebrated and unconditionally welcomed. This belief that they could change perceptions has grown into our mission and purpose: To change the way the world views Down syndrome and to send a global message of acceptance of all. It’s also grown in 57 open Playhouses, 80 countries through the Virtual Playhouse, and the Generation G movement!

What is Generation G?

Be Accepting. Be Generous. Be Kind.

Generation “G” is a movement – We are shifting awareness into ACTION! We stand with and for people of all different abilities and their rights to dignity, opportunity, and global acceptance.

Generation “G” is a mindset – We focus on looking for the uniqueness and potential of each individual, we seek to harness the good all around us and take action to improve all areas of our communities.

Generation “G” is an action plan – Engaging families, volunteers, donors, medical communities, corporations, schools, media and more to reshape perception and foster generosity.

Changing the World is in the palm of your hand!

Acceptance means YOU belong here!

Are you part of Generation “G”?

Generation G is generous with their time, talents and treasures; most importantly they are dreamers and achievers!  Generation G will stand up for others and not allow people to hurt others or use words that are offensive, based on empathy and understanding rather than political correctness.  Generation G sees potential and achievement, high goals and wild ideas, support and understanding.  If YOU are generous and accepting and continue to support loved ones and friends through the many inevitable challenges of life, YOU are part of Generation G.

For 8 years, GiGi’s Playhouse Phoenix has been changing the way the world views Down syndrome starting right here at home, and you can guarantee that we will be doing even more and working harder than ever before.  Programs, events and outreach will be added and rejuvenated through new ideas, new metrics and new partnerships.  The fight for global acceptance through new social change campaigns will continue.  We will ALWAYS embrace the participant, the next new parent, the experienced parent and all those who enter the Playhouse. Volunteers and donors will find a fulfilling place to share their time and talents. We will do it free of charge and we will do it together!

Generosity means we’re always willing to share, especially these beautiful smiles!

To succeed in this important journey:  WE NEED YOUR VOICES AND YOUR HELP.  One person, one school, one organization and one community at a time: let’s show the world what GiGi’s Playhouse Phoenix has in store for the next 21 years and beyond.  Through more voices, more time, more talents and more support:  Generation G is changing the world!!

Click to take the “I Accept You” pledge and make a commitment to be accepting, be generous and be kind every day and in every way! Share your commitment on social media using #GenerationG and as we get ready to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day, encourage others to do the same. By taking the pledge today, you will join over 250,000 other world changers that we call #GenerationG!

Kindness means we are always willing to lend a hand!
