GiGi’s NYC recently closed out our spring semester, and it was nothing short of amazing!\u00a0Check out the recap below to read about our remarkable 2nd quarter:

We launched our spring semester which included recurring community favorites such as Fantastic Friends and LitLab, as well as the re-launch of Community Chorus.\u00a0

Steve Friedman<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and his wife\u00a0hosted our community for the workshop, “March to Independence.” They shared essential information to help navigate the path toward independence for those with Down syndrome. Topics included social, safety, health, financial\/benefits, legal instruments, housing, and more. You can watch the recording\u00a0here<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0

We held a Mother’s Day celebration at our playhouse where our participants made chocolate dipped strawberries and played fun games with their mothers and mother figures.

Participants\u00a0engaged in basketball and soccer drills at our Sports Clinic.\u00a0

Parents joined us for our second Family RoundTable, where we discussed the ongoing needs of our participants and how to work as a team to improve our operations.

Taylor’d Speech and Language Services<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0hosted our community for the two-part virtual workshop,\u00a0“Understanding Feeding Challenges.” They provided a comprehensive overview of feeding challenges in infants, with a focus on differentiating between dysphagia and feeding delays. They also provided strategies to support safe feeding, taught therapy approaches to manage dysphagia in children, and\u00a0explored assessment methods and tools used by professionals to identify and\u00a0evaluate these conditions.\u00a0

Our Outreach Committee represented us at the\u00a0HYROX<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>NYC\u00a0event, where we spread our mission of acceptance and awareness while\u00a0raising funds.

We moved for acceptance at our 10th Annual Dancing For Down Syndrome event as part of the national GiGiFIT Acceptance Challenge.\u00a0

All seven students from our\u00a0inaugural\u00a0GiGi University class graduated! It was a wonderful semester filled with hands-on learning in and out of the\u00a0classroom. Our students\u00a0visited\u00a0the Royal Bank of Canada,\u00a0Mastercard, the\u00a0High Line, and Perkins&Will. Check out this\u00a0video<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0for a recap.

We kicked off our highly popular summer programs, starting with our participants 18+ at Fantastic Friends.\u00a0
