This week on our Meet the Associate Board blog series, we are pleased to introduce Kim Osorio. Kim is a huge asset to\u00a0GiGi\u2019s\u00a0NYC and we are so fortunate to have her as an active member of our Associate Board! We hope you\u00a0enjoy the below Q&A with Kim.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How and when did you first get involved with\u00a0GiGi\u2019s\u00a0NYC?<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

My best friend invited me to the 2018\u00a0GiGi\u2019s\u00a0NYC 2<\/span>nd<\/span>\u00a0Annual\u00a0Fall\u00a0Fashion\u00a0Show\u00a0at Bloomingdale\u2019s,\u00a0knowing that it would be an event\u00a0I\u00a0would love. She was right! I was so impressed with the amazing participants and the organization that I\u00a0had to become involved! I joined the Associate Board\u00a0as\u00a0Vice President\u00a0of\u00a0Fundraising and\u00a0Events a few months later and have been involved ever since.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Why did you decide to join the Associate Board of Directors?<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I recently moved\u00a0to New York City\u00a0from the\u00a0West\u00a0Coast and was looking for groups to connect\u00a0with that share values that are important to me. The\u00a0GiGi\u2019s\u00a0NYC\u00a0Associate Board\u00a0is an amazing group of professionals that care\u00a0deeply\u00a0for\u00a0the Down syndrome community and work with the Board of Directors to support\u00a0our mission to improve the lives of all people with Down syndrome, from birth through adulthood, by providing them with the resources\u00a0they\u00a0need to apply to life\u2019s challenges and achieve.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What do you do on the Associate Board?<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On the\u00a0GiGi\u2019s\u00a0NYC Associate Board\u00a0I serve\u00a0as Vice President\u00a0of\u00a0Fundraising and\u00a0Events and\u00a0am a member of\u00a0the\u00a0Board of Directors\u00a0Development\u00a0Committee. I write\u00a0grants\u00a0requesting funding\u00a0for\u00a0many of our life-changing programs, which we provide at no cost to our participants and their families.\u00a0I have learned so much from the leaders\u00a0at\u00a0GiGi\u2019s\u00a0NYC\u00a0and\u00a0all\u00a0Associate\u00a0Board\u00a0members.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What is your favorite thing about the\u00a0GiGi\u2019s\u00a0NYC community?<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

My favorite aspect of\u00a0GiGi\u2019s\u00a0NYC is how accepting and welcoming everyone is!\u00a0At each meeting and\u00a0event\u00a0I\u00a0attend, there are smiling and happy faces excited to get together\u00a0to achieve a common goal.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What does Down syndrome awareness and acceptance look like to you?<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Down syndrome\u00a0awareness and acceptance means recognizing the incredible achievements and abilities of our community. Children and adults with Down syndrome are capable\u00a0of\u00a0incredible achievements at every phase of life. It\u2019s important to educate\u00a0the greater\u00a0community\u00a0regarding their abilities.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What from our community are you most proud of?<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m so proud of everything! I\u2019m amazed at the talents, diversity,\u00a0and\u00a0intelligence\u00a0of all our individuals\u00a0with Down syndrome, and how\u00a0GiGi\u2019s\u00a0NYC empowers our participants to achieve and be included in the greater community.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
