This week, we are thrilled to introduce Joyce\u00a0<\/span>Gottbetter<\/span>, the Vice President of the Board of Directors at\u00a0<\/span>GiGi\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0Playhouse NYC!\u00a0<\/span>While new to our Board, Joyce has already\u00a0<\/span>contributed<\/span>\u00a0so much to our community and has quickly become part of our family.\u00a0<\/span>Please enjoy the below Q&A with Joyce!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How and when did you first get involved with\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/b>GiGi\u2019s<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0Playhouse NYC?<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I became involved with\u00a0<\/span>GiGi\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0Playhouse NYC in the spring of 2020, right during the rapid expansion of C<\/span>OVID<\/span>-19. Because of the timing, I have had very few occasions to engage live with the community, meeting primarily virtually.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Why did you decide to join the Board of Directors?<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I went through the interview process to become a\u00a0<\/span>B<\/span>oard<\/span>\u00a0M<\/span>ember and I was thoroughly impressed by the passion and the authenticity of the current\u00a0<\/span>B<\/span>oard\u00a0<\/span>M<\/span>embers. They were so genuine and committed to the community and its mission, that I really wanted to be a part of\u00a0<\/span>GiGi\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0NYC as well<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0and to make a positive impact\u00a0<\/span>on<\/span>\u00a0this community and\u00a0<\/span>on\u00a0<\/span>the world.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What does Down syndrome awareness and acceptance look like to you?<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A world of true Down syndrome awareness and acceptance to me means that the members of our community and all individuals with Down syndrome are supported in a way that\u00a0<\/span>allows them to l<\/span>ive to their full potential. Also, I look forward to the time when we live in an inclusive world that accepts and embraces all people, and in which we celebrate all our differences and all our similarities.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What from our community are you most proud of?<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I am proud of how supportive\u00a0<\/span>GiGi\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0Playhouse NYC is of our community for individuals<\/span>\u00a0with Down syndrome<\/span>\u00a0and their families and caregivers. At our core, we are diverse and inclusive, and we are passionately committed to our mission\u00a0<\/span>to\u00a0<\/span>educate, inspire, and believe. And finally, I love the fact that we work to make the world more inclusive and accepting of not only the Down syndrome community, but\u00a0<\/span>of\u00a0<\/span>all people.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How do you enjoy spending your free time?<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Our family is passionate about traveling, especially internationally. We<\/span>\u00a0have<\/span>\u00a0lived in Shanghai, China for<\/span>\u00a0five<\/span>\u00a0years<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0and during that time, we traveled to a different country during every holiday. I caught the international travel bug from that experience.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>I also enjoy being outdoors, running, kayaking, and boating on the Long Island Sound, among\u00a0<\/span>other<\/span>\u00a0of my favorite outdoor activities.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What do you look forward to doing at the Playhouse once we can safely gather there again?<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u00a0<\/span>cannot<\/span>\u00a0wait to be together live with the\u00a0<\/span>GiGi\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0Playhouse NYC community. I had a small glimpse into this at our Halloween party this year and I absolutely loved meeting and engaging live with our members and their families. What an incredible group of people! I look forward to being together and supporting\u00a0<\/span>each other<\/span>\u00a0in the days ahead.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What do you want the\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/b>GiGi\u2019s<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0Playhouse NYC community to know?<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I would like the\u00a0<\/span>GiGi\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0Playhouse NYC community to know how humbled and appreciative I am, as a Board Member, to be a part of this community. The heart-warming joy that comes from engaging with our community members cannot be described in words. Together, we will surely make an impact in the world, making it more inclusive for all people!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Also, I would like the community to know that the\u00a0<\/span>B<\/span>oard is fully committed to bringing programs and initiatives to\u00a0<\/span>GiGi\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0Playhouse NYC that enable<\/span>\u00a0all of<\/span>\u00a0our community members to realize their full potential!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
