Really Making a Difference

It was an honor for Marilee and I to represent GiGi’s Playhouse NYC at the Manhattan Family Resource Fair on Wednesday, December 11.  I was concerned that the 18th floor of the Hotel Pennsylvania would not draw in a crowd, such as St. Paul The Apostle venue of last year.

The floor and rooms were crowded, all booths occupied, and a steady stream of people all day.  What this says is that many are in need of services.  GiGi’s Playhouse-NYC is here to provide them – and FREE OF CHARGE!

Last year when Britt Sady, our Executive Director, and I participated, about 10% knew of GiGi’s Playhouse. This year I would estimate that 60% were aware of our organization. NDSS, YAI, Children’s Aid Society, Cardinal Cooke, and so many more thanked us for our Advocacy and for networking with them.  We collected an additional 24 names to add to our database, and gave out information to all.

We are part of the solution!  We can all be so proud of our mission at GiGi’s Playhouse-NYC and the difference we are really making in lives. It’s humbling to sit behind the table and listen to the need of a mother, the need to have her 11 year old son be with friends and participate in real ways. To experience her actually holding onto the table and leaning closer to the voice telling her, “We want your son, your whole family, to come to the Playhouse and experience a greater potential…”  We all have greater potential, and together through our programs at GiGi’s Playhouse, we explore ways to achieve it.

Another observation, “What do we have for Teens?” “Do we have an Adult program?”

This population represents a large segment of our community and there is no denying that soon our young children will be there.  We continue to work on positive ways to address our ever growing community.  We invite you to come, participate, help us grow.

Marilee and I wish to express our admiration for what so many have accomplished during this past year and we look forward to the achievements of the New Year ahead.
