Positive Changes, A Thank You from Katie

To my amazing and inspiring GiGi’s Playhouse NYC Community,

This year has been one of the hardest years I think we all could have faced. We were faced with a lot of unknowns and unexpected situations that have all made us appreciate the little things and take life day by day.

I know you have all had to adapt and take every single new day with stride and be so creative as each new challenge has come across your path. I have seen your resilience and your devotion to support one another and be an ally through the good times and the tough times too. We have worked together to create something beautiful in these last 3-4 months at GiGi’s Playhouse NYC with our virtual programs, lectures, and family support groups that have been a resounding brightness and light for me this year.

As many of you know, I am making my departure from GiGi’s Playhouse NYC as a staff member and a daily presence in the Playhouse of GiGi’s Playhouse NYC. This decision has been one of the most difficult moves of my career so far. Having to say goodbye to the daily reminder that I get to be a part of your families daily, weekly, or seasonal routines has been a significant highlight of my life and I have cherished every day that I get to spend with our incredibly loving, talented and compassionate Down syndrome community.

I hope you will take this change as an inspiration to get involved in the happenings and workings of the Playhouse for your family and for our community. I know this may seem a sudden change for many of you, but I have always tried to accept change as a positive, seeing the “playhouse” half full and to see the areas in which I can improve myself and the world around me. I have learned this from you and my friends with Down syndrome over the years. I hope you will use this change as a catalyst to get involved, to educate, inspire and achieve more through GiGi’s Playhouse NYC.

It has been an honor for me to say that you are all a part of my extended family, and I do truly hope that I still see you at all of the future karaoke parties, dance-a-thon’s, fundraisers and community events when we are able to reconnect in person – You can bet that I will still be there dancing and singing right along with you 🙂

Please feel free to reach out in order to stay in touch! I would appreciated the updates and I hope you will have a great summer in the city as things are beginning to reopen safely in our neighborhood.

Thank you for educating me on what it means to be a part of the Down syndrome community during our time together.

Thank you for inspiring me every day to be better, do greater, and to work harder.

Thank you for believing in the community to spread our positive awareness of Down syndrome every moment of every day.

Thank you for sharing your achievements with me. To allow me to be a part of your lives and to have your commitment to our mission has been a life changing experience, of which I am immensely grateful for.

Much Love,

Katie Momenee
