Meet the Associate Board: Isaac Shapot

GiGi’s NYC is excited to introduce Isaac Shapot! Isaac joined our Associate Board earlier this year and has quickly proven to be a wonderful addition to the GiGi’s NYC community. We hope you enjoy what he has to say about his (almost) first year with us!

  • How and when did you first get involved with GiGi’s NYC?
    • I got involved with GiGi’s NYC in February of 2021. I initially spent my volunteering hours doing quality assurance for the marketing team—things like making sure Instagram posts make sense, editing blog entries, and creating a GiGi’s NYC linktree page.
  • Why did you decide to join the Associate Board (AB)?
    • I decided to join the AB to meet like-minded individuals who are passionate about helping their community. Additionally, joining the AB gives me the chance to have a larger impact than just volunteering does.
  • How did you find out about GiGi’s NYC?
    • My friend Kyle Galin, another Associate Board member, introduced me to GiGi’s NYC and recommended I volunteer.
  • What does GiGi’s NYC mean to you?
    • GiGi’s NYC means creating a more accepting community that truly values everyone.
  • What do you do on the Associate Board?
    • I recently helped the AB solicit donations for the silent auction for our annual Gala. In addition to that and fundraising, Kyle Galin and I are the coaches for GiGi’s NYC Sports Clinic.
  • What is your favorite thing about the GiGi’s NYC community?
    • My favorite thing is how open the community is to new ideas. For example, Kyle and I are both former athletes and wanted to coach a sports clinic for the GiGi’s NYC community. We shared this new idea with Rosella–GiGi’s NYC Operations Manager–and Kaye—GiGi’s NYC former Programs Coordinator-and they were onboard nearly immediately. They then did an amazing job helping us find a space to host the clinic, set up the equipment, and spread the message to the GiGi’s NYC community. The clinic was a huge success, and we will be hosting another one on 12/4/21.
  • What does Down syndrome awareness and acceptance look like to you?
    • It means that people with Down syndrome can fully be who they are, and society cherishes them for exactly that.
  • How do you enjoy spending your free time?
    • Playing sports (such as basketball and football), skiing, listening to podcasts, working out, and hanging out with friends.
  • What do you want the GiGi’s NYC community to know?
    • That if you have any ideas that will help this community grow, you shouldn’t be afraid to share it—no matter how silly it may seem.

We are incredibly grateful for Isaac and cannot thank him enough for the care and commitment he brings to the Associate Board. We are honored to have him as part of the GiGi’s NYC family. We hope you can join Issac and Kyle for our second bi-annual Sports Clinic on 12/4. To RSVP, please visit our calendar here: https://gigisplayhouse.org/newyork/calendar/. Please join us in sharing your appreciation for Isaac and what he brings to our community!
