Participant Spotlight and Cover Girl: Destiny Weldon

Destiny originally got involved with GiGi’s Playhouse Nashville through the Girl Scout program years ago. Her and her family moved to Colorado in 2015 and upon their return to Nashville, her mom (Denise) reconnected with GiGi’s in hopes there was something for Destiny age group and there was!
Denise writes “Destiny LOVES GiGi’s!!! Since returning to Nashville in 2019 and participating in GiGi’s programs, she has reconnected with a few of the people she knew from Camp Will, her GS troop and one of the dance groups she belonged to (at MTSU). She really enjoys GiGi’s Kitchen, Yoga, EPIC and GiGiFIT. Destiny also enjoyed GiGi Prep as well because she was able to see everyone more often and I was surprised that she said she enjoyed the math. She has never liked math.
Our staff and volunteers absolutely adore Destiny. One of our volunteers noted “she always has the best, insightful questions in GiGi Prep!” It has been incredible watching Destiny excel in our programs at GiGi’s! She quickly got acquainted with our other adult participants and has made so many new friends here!  We have loved getting to know Destiny and see her thrive in so many of our in-person AND virtual programs!
Earlier this month Destiny was featured on the cover of Global Down syndrome Foundation: Down Syndrome World Magazine!  There is a 5-page spread about Destiny and how she has persevered through her diagnosis of Down syndrome. She is featured alongside Denver Bronco’s place kicker, Brandon McManus, who walked the catwalk with Destiny when she was chosen to be apart of GLOBAL’s 10th Anniversary “Be Beautiful Be Yourself Fashion Show.”
We are so proud to have Destiny in the GiGi’s Playhouse Nashville family!
