GiGi’s Playhouse Nashville Believer’s Ball 2017

Written by GiGi’s Playhouse Nashville’s EPIC Adults

We are GiGi’s EPIC adults. We are officially taking over the GiGi’s Playhouse Nashville blog! Many of us had an opportunity to attend GiGi’s Playhouse Nashville’s annual Gala this year.  We would like to share with you what we experienced at the “i have a voice” Believer’s Ball this year.  But first, a little about us.

Who are we? You will get to know us more in the coming weeks as we write more blog posts and introduce ourselves personally. The EPIC adult program (Empowerment, Participation, Independence, & Community Involvement) meets weekly to provide opportunities for socialization and community involvement, while creating a fun and memorable experience for its participants. Participants work on vocational, communication, and social skills to boost confidence and encourage independence.

Now, back to the main event—the Believer’s Ball! We had the opportunity to be the first faces guests saw as they entered ballroom at the Hutton Hotel this year. The EPIC adults from GiGi’s Playhouse greeted guests by saying their names, showing them where to see the auction items for both the silent and live auctions, and directed them where to check in.

Guests found their seats and, after that, there was a buffet dinner of grilled chicken, steak, potatoes, broccoli, salad, bread, and cheesecake. Favorite food items of the EPIC adults included the chicken, steak, and potatoes, as well as the cheesecake.

Andrew Donaldson of GiGi’s Playhouse EPIC adults and Lauren Atkinson of On The End CrossFit and Lauren Marie Atkinson Designs gave speeches to welcome guests to the Gala.

The Gala also included both a silent auction and a live auction. There were many items at the GiGi’s Gala auction: some of these included a Titans jersey, a Predators hockey stick, a Houston jersey, Chick-Fil-A gift card, signed guitars by the cast of Nashville and George Strait, and a Lipscomb Fan Pack. The live auction was really fun because of the auctioneer (David Allen from Music City Auction)—he was very funny, and of course, he talked a mile a minute as he kept up with each of the bids. The silent and live auctions raised more money for GiGi’s Playhouse than they have ever earned in five years.
The music was provided by a band called Rubiks Groove. The band came on stage wearing costumes such as Mario, Ninja Turtles, PeeWee Herman, Transformers, Rainbow Brite, and Karate Kid, and they sang and danced all night. The EPIC adults danced right in front of the stage all evening. The band played some favorite songs by the Backstreet Boys, Pharrell Williams, and One Direction. The band kept the dance floor hopping until late into the night.

Thank you for reading our first blog post.  We hope you will return next week to hear more about us!
