4th graders are changing the world

Stormonth Elementary’s 4th graders are changing the way the world views Down syndrome. They have taken the #GenerationG pledge, learned about acceptance, and inclusion, and are living these lessons every day! Each student walks a 5K and is raising money to support our GiGi’s which provides FREE educational, therapeutic and career programs for people with Down syndrome and other disabilities of all ages and abilities in the Greater Milwaukee area and beyond through in-person and virtual programs.

Join us in changing the world! Register for the 5K run, 1-mile walk or donate before April 29th at noon – HTTPS://bit.ly/acceptmke2022  The main event begins May 1st at 8:30am. Volunteers for the event are also needed – sign up today HTTPS://bit.ly/volunteermke22

It was my pleasure to travel to Madison with this group of amazing kids yesterday. They were excited to share how many pledges they have received as well as how much they like having my daughter as part of their classroom. Their teachers are incredibly supportive and have welcomed her as a capable student that adds to their classroom. We are so proud of all the kids that have befriended her, accepted her and supported each other this year, and we have finally found a place to call home. At GiGi’s Playhouse Violet receives FREE literacy, math and speech tutoring plus she participates in a specialized physical fitness class (GiGiFIT) with others her age, and art and music programs as well! She is now becoming the supportive older kid to those just joining the Playhouse family, showing GenerationG to a whole new audience. –Sara Van Deurzen, Operations Director at GiGi’s Playhouse Milwaukee and Violet’s mom.

GiGi’s Playhouse Milwaukee has partnered with Stormonth for an annual 4th grade service-learning project. Together, we are leading an acceptance movement that has developed in to promote #GenerationG and to help supplement the cost of providing free programs to the Greater Milwaukee Community.

If you are interested in creating a program like this for a school please do not hesitate to reach out. Having community support for our children is really what life is all about.
