JUNE<\/strong><\/h1>\n

In June we finished our first semester programs and workshops with the participation of 40 volunteers and 30 children. We also started getting ready for the next year.<\/p>\n

Concluimos nuestros programas y talleres del primer semestre teniendo la participaci\u00f3n activa de 40 voluntarios y 30 ni\u00f1os.<\/p>\n

During the month we hired our new Director, Eva Patricia Barba Reynoso, who joins us with a degree in Education and Development. She attended a 5 day training course at GiGi\u00b4s Playhouse in Chicago, where she met the founder of the Playhouse, Nancy Gianni, and one of our most generous friends, John Manley. She studied many of the Playhouse programs and saw them put into actual practice. She has brought these exciting ideas back to GiGi\u00b4s Playhouse M\u00e9xico.<\/p>\n

Durante este mes tambi\u00e9n contratamos a nuestra directora de centro, la Lic. Eva Patricia Barba Reynoso, licenciada en Educaci\u00f3n y Desarrollo. Ella tuvo una capacitaci\u00f3n de 5 d\u00edas en el centro de GiGi\u00b4s Playhouse Nacional en Chicago donde pudo conocer a la fundadora de GiGi\u00b4s Playhouse Nancy Gianni y a uno de nuestros padrinos el Sr. John Manley. En estos d\u00edas ella estudi\u00f3 varios de nuestros manuales y programas, adem\u00e1s de verlos en la pr\u00e1ctica. Trajo nuevas ideas para GiGi\u00b4s Playhouse M\u00e9xico.<\/p>\n

SUMMER (JULY AND AUGUST)<\/h1>\n

In July and August we really focused our efforts on preparing for the upcoming school year. We hired Itzel Robles, who brings a degree in Preschool Education to the Playhouse. She also has valuable experience in teaching children with disabilities. She will coordinate the literacy program for small children. In addition, she will teach our young volunteers to serve as tutors for the children.<\/p>\n

We also hired a new coordinator for the Hop, Skip and Jumpers program: Isabel Ortega. She comes to us with a degree in Special Education.<\/p>\n

Estos meses fueron de preparaci\u00f3n para un buen inicio del a\u00f1o escolar. Contratamos a la profesora Itzel Robles , Lic. en Educaci\u00f3n Preescolar con experiencia en impartir clases a ni\u00f1os con discapacidad. Ella coordina el programa de lecto-escritura para ni\u00f1os peque\u00f1os y se le capacit\u00f3 para liderar a los j\u00f3venes voluntarios del programa y darles seguimiento. Tambi\u00e9n conseguimos a una nueva coordinadora del programa de Saltos y Juegos: Isabel Ortega, ella es licenciada en Educaci\u00f3n Especial .<\/p>\n

We also spent time sprucing up the Playhouse facility. We prepared a special welcome lobby for parents. We received a donation of paint and labor from General Electric. Thanks to their generosity, the center is now filled with joy with walls decked out in GiGi\u00b4s Playhouse own special colors!<\/p>\n

\"jul-aug-4\"<\/a>We also used this time to consolidate our processes and formats so that we can assure better follow-up for all our programs and workshops.<\/p>\n

In July we took photos for our 2015 calendar (available for purchase by all our friends).<\/p>\n

Preparamos el centro: acondicionamos una sala de recepci\u00f3n para pap\u00e1s y conseguimos una donaci\u00f3n de pintura y mano de obra de parte de General Electric. \u00a1El centro se llen\u00f3 de alegr\u00eda con las paredes de los colores propios de Gigi\u00b4s Playhouse!.<\/p>\n

Durante este tiempo se sistematizaron procesos y formatos para un mejor seguimiento de los programas y talleres.<\/p>\n

En el mes de julio se tomaron las fotos de nuestro pr\u00f3ximo calendario 2015.<\/p>\n

We are committed to working with local schools and colleges so that interested students can fulfill their social service obligation with us. We started relationships with a number of educational institutions, such Universidad Cuauht\u00e9moc, Colegio San Javier, Salesiano, Cumbres y Alpes. We also renewed contracts with Universidad An\u00e1huac and Colegio Nuevo Continente and with students from Colegio Olmo and Fontanar.<\/p>\n

\"jul-aug-5\"<\/a>On August 30 we completed our volunteer training course. We had the chance to explain what Down syndrome is, how to work with DS children, and how our programs and workshops help those with DS,<\/p>\n

On August 19th we all gathered together to celebrate GiGi\u00b4s Playhouse first anniversary! In recognition of the achievement we organized workshops for children of all ages and also for parents. \u00a0Approximately 100 people were able to be part of the festivities.<\/p>\n

Continuamos trabajando en la vinculaci\u00f3n y en los convenios con escuelas y universidades para que sus alumnos realicen el servicio social con nosotros.<\/p>\n

Abrimos las puertas de: la Universidad Cuauht\u00e9moc, Colegio San Javier, Salesiano, Colegio Cumbres y Alpes y renovamos contacto con la Universidad An\u00e1huac, Colegio Nuevo Continente y alumnos del Colegio Olmo y Fontanar.<\/p>\n

El d\u00eda 30 de agosto organizamos una jornada de capacitaci\u00f3n de voluntarios donde se les explic\u00f3 qu\u00e9 es el s\u00edndrome de Down, c\u00f3mo trabajar con los ni\u00f1os, presentamos nuestros programas y talleres, etc.<\/p>\n

\u00a1El 19 de agosto celebramos nuestro primer aniversario de GiGi\u2019s Playhouse!. Tuvimos una convivencia en donde todos juntos celebramos este logro importante. Organizamos talleres para todas las edades y para los padres de familia .Tuvimos alrededor de 100 personas participando.<\/p>\n

Also as part of the celebration we organized our first massage session for babies under 2 years old.<\/p>\n

SEPTEMBER<\/h1>\n

We kicked off the new year with 7 programs. Three of them are new: the literacy program for adolescents and adults, a walking and crawling program, and four language groups. We also began dancing and painting programs.<\/p>\n

Arrancamos con 7 programas de los cuales 3 son nuevos: el programa de lecto-escritura para mayores con 8 adolescentes y j\u00f3venes , el programa de gateo y caminata y los 4 grupos de lenguaje. Tambi\u00e9n abrimos talleres de baile y pintura.<\/p>\n

On September 12 we had a \u201cMexican Night\u201d to celebrate our national\u00a0Independence Day.<\/p>\n

El 12 de septiembre compartimos nuestra \u201cnoche mexicana\u201d con motivo de las fiestas patrias.<\/p>\n

For our parents we offered three courses: one in Nutrition, another in \u201cPositive Attitude: Being Happy is a Decision,\u201d and \u201cDifferent Capacities\u201d about how to help our children and their siblings, and how to provide a better education.<\/p>\n

Para la formaci\u00f3n de nuestros padres de familia tuvimos tres conferencias una de Nutrici\u00f3n , otra titulada \u201cActitud Positiva: ser feliz es una decisi\u00f3n\u201d y la tercera titulada \u201cCapacidades diferentes\u201d sobre c\u00f3mo llevar adelante a nuestros hijos y a sus hermanos y el aprender a acompa\u00f1arlos y educarlos.<\/p>\n
