Gliding, Giggles and Glowing Fires<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s something special about winter nights\u2014crisp air, twinkling lights, and the sound of skates gliding (or sometimes shuffling) across the ice. This year\u2019s Family & Friends Ice Skating Event, in partnership with Monona Parks and Recreation and DSAW-SC, was another unforgettable evening filled with fun, laughter, and determination!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About 50 people joined us, and for some, it was their very first time on skates. There were a few wobbles and some tumbles, but everyone gave it their Best of All, proving that courage and community go hand in hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stepping (and Skating) Outside the Comfort Zone<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Ice skating can be a challenge for anyone, but for individuals with Down syndrome, balance and coordination can make it even trickier. That didn\u2019t stop our crew! Whether holding onto the wall, using support from friends, or finding their own rhythm on the ice, every skater pushed forward with determination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some glided with confidence, while others took it slow and steady\u2014but no matter the pace, the rink was full of cheers and high-fives. Parents, siblings, and volunteers were all in on the excitement, making sure everyone felt encouraged and supported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More Than Just Skating<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Of course, the night wasn\u2019t just about skating\u2014it was about community. When skaters needed a break, they gathered around the fire pits, sipping hot cocoa chatting. Inside the warming house, friends caught up over snacks and laughter filled the air.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s something about these simple moments\u2014bundling up next to a warm fire, sharing a cup of cocoa\u2014that truly makes this event special. It\u2019s about spending time together, celebrating achievements big and small, and creating memories that last long after the ice melts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Power of Partnerships<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A huge shoutout to Monona Parks and Rec and DSAW-SC for helping make this event such a success! Their support and commitment to inclusion made it possible for everyone to feel welcome and confident enough to try something new. Events like this remind us how much stronger we are when we come together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the evening wrapped up and skates came off, there was a collective feeling of pride and joy. Whether it was someone\u2019s first time on the ice or their hundredth, everyone left with a sense of accomplishment. Because at the end of the day, it\u2019s not about how well you skate\u2014it\u2019s about showing up, giving it your best, and having a great time with friends and family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
