Gold Medal Worthy Down Syndrome Awareness Fall Fest

On October 2nd, we kicked off Down Syndrome Acceptance/Awareness Month (DSAM) with a Fall Fest where  families and community members came to Ahuska Park in Monona for an afternoon of fun and surprises.

The event included an activity fair planned by a group of Madison College Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) students, a performance by a local all-star cheerleading gym, Fury Athletics of Madison, all abilities cheer team and chance to learn some skills, and street curling with US Olympic team members Becca and Matt Hamilton!

Families spent the afternoon trying obstacle courses and kicking goals, having a dance party,

painting rocks and getting their face painted, trying the sport of Curling and getting to hold a real Olympic Gold Medal!

Everyone that came also went home with a bag full of ways to celebrate DSAM at home, including blue and yelloe hearts and streamers and activity books full of ways to decorate, get fit and share with your friends and family.

To print your our kits, visit our DSAM page HERE!

A huge thank you to the volunteers from Madison College and Edgewood High School, to the volunteers that over 3 days compiled the great take home bags and especially to Becca and Matt Hamilton for their kindness and generosity by sharing the love of their sport!
