The majority of individuals with Down syndrome CAN learn to read and write!

Fact Friday 4

Myth: All people with Down syndrome cannot learn to read or write.

Facts to disprove myth:

The Global Down Syndrome Foundation stated that the majority of children with Down syndrome learn to read and write. Although developmental differences affect learning styles, all children with Down syndrome have the ability to learn and achieve just like other children.

Research has shown that using visual aides, promoting errorless learning, and modeling desired skills help children with Down syndrome to learn those skills. Visit the following link to learn more about how individuals with Down syndrome learn: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUK4JQN_uCM
