Grace Burke is 22 and on the run. When she\u2019s not working, you\u2019ll find this millennial hanging out with friends, playing on her laptop, or working out. The only thing that sets her apart from her peers is an extra copy of chromosome 21.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cGrace has been such a huge blessing in our lives,\u201d says Jill Burke, Grace\u2019s mom. \u201cShe\u2019s always been very outgoing and very social.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

So\u00a0it should come as no surprise that Grace has been selected as the 2021 3.21 Mile Run Adult Honoree. \u201cShe was so excited, she couldn\u2019t stop giggling and cheering when she found out she was going to be the honoree,\u201d Jill adds.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Hamilton Southeastern High School graduate has been part of the\u00a0GiGi\u2019s\u00a0Playhouse Indy family for two years. She participates in the EPIC,\u00a0GiGiFIT\u00a0Adult, and SMART programs where she\u2019s met some of her best friends. \u201cBefore COVID-19 hit, she and her friends were out volunteering with\u00a0GiGi\u2019s,\u201d Jill says. \u201cI loved that she got to get out, help others, and have regular experiences that a typical person has. It\u2019s been priceless.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Grace also works at ULTA Beauty, \u201cfolding towels, dusting, and putting samples in bags,\u201d Grace says. These are experiences Jill feared Grace may never have.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are so very thankful for\u00a0GiGi\u2019s,\u201d Jill says. \u201cThese kinds of programs weren\u2019t available for kids with Down syndrome when Grace was born. The opportunities seem to be endless these days.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Jill recommends parents with kids with Down syndrome get involved with programs like\u00a0GiGi\u2019s\u00a0early and ask questions often. A great way to do that is to participate in a<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

playhouse fundraiser like the 3.21 Mile Run. Grace is registered to run with her EPIC team on June 5th.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m going to raise money on Facebook and by asking a lot of friends,\u201d Grace adds. She might even rope her four siblings into participating. Her advice to you? \u201cGet out there and raise money! Support\u00a0GiGi\u2019s\u00a0Playhouse!\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In her spare time Grace enjoys reading, painting, writing stories, dancing, and watching her favorite shows on her laptop.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
