Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Colleen! #bettertogether

Lately, I have been reflecting on community. I have been thinking about GiGi’s
Playhouse Houston and how the members of our community are quickly coming
together to fill our playhouse. Everyone has been creating new connections,
meeting new families, new and established participants are coming, and we are
gaining more volunteers; and this all equates to building a community.
According to the Oxford Dictionary, one of the definitions of community is, “a
feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes,
interests, and goals.” Wow, that’s GiGi’s Playhouse, a shared space of common
attitudes, interests, and goals.

Well, I was recently contacted by one our volunteer community members who shares our mission, meet Colleen! She was first introduced to GiGi’s Playhouse by way of GiGi’s Playhouse Tampa, where Colleen’s very dear friend Doreen and adult son, Nick, who I hear is famous around the Tampa area, are very involved.  Colleen said she toured GiGi’s Playhouse Tampa approximately 3 years back and knew instantly she wanted to be a part of our community. Fast forward and a big thank you to Doreen, we have Colleen as our Volunteer Extraordinaire.

Colleen is a Registered Nurse and is so easy to talk to, as I had the opportunity to chat with her at our Playhouse recently and I could have easily curled up on the couch and gabbed for hours with her. She started volunteering with us before the pandemic, life then took some twists and turns over the last few years; however, Colleen is back and ready to expand our community. While she was here, she added several programs to her calendar that she wants to volunteer for, they include Art Explosion, LMNOP (twice), Destination Discovery, and Dance Hip Hop! From Houston to Tampa, we thank you for introducing Colleen to GiGi’s Playhouse and our beautiful community. I cannot wait to see her do some Hip Hop with our teen and adult participants, or shall I say, community members!
