We are so thrilled to welcome 4 incredibly talented interns for the Spring 2018 semester. As we roar into March, their collective insights and talents have greatly increased our community presence, volunteer management, program impact, and fundraising efforts!
Christina Patskin, our Outreach Intern, is a senior in the College of Public Health and Health Professions at the University of Florida. Her dream is to be an Occupational Therapist specializing in children with special needs. Christina has been actively involved in improving our community outreach through attending volunteer recruitment fairs at SF College and the University of Florida and family resource fairs like the Family Resource Expo and the upcoming Spring Festival and Vendor’s Fair. Her passion for GiGi’s is evident in all she does…check out an interview she did with WCJB TV 20 at the Family Resource Expo in January. Be sure to say hi to her and our team of great volunteers when you see us out and in the community! Contact Christina at firstname.lastname@example.org
Drew Fletcher, our Volunteer Coordinator Intern, is a sophomore in the College of Health and Human Performance at the University of Florida. He is on the pre-med track majoring in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology with a minor in Disabilities in Society and hopes to utilize his talents for helping children in the medical field. Drew has been an active volunteer at the Playhouse since summer 2017 in the roles of co-program lead, Literacy Tutor, and now this spring as our Volunteer Coordinator Intern. Drew works collaboratively with all the interns and our Program Coordinator to ensure that our programs, community events, and fundraising events are properly staffed with well-trained and enthusiastic volunteers. He is very appreciative of all the time and effort our volunteers put in to make what we do fun and purposeful! He is a super patient Literacy Tutor
and is always looking for ways to better engage and support the reading skills of his student! Contact Drew at email@example.com
Sari Schechtman, our Operations Intern, is a senior in the Health Services Administration Program at SF College. Her activities of helping us manage the daily operations of the playhouse are fueling her interest in project management in the non-profit field. Sari’s current project is to manage our successful participation in the Amazing Give. The Amazing Give is a 24-hour online fundraising campaign though the Community Foundation of North Central Florida. The Amazing Give is scheduled for March 21 – 22, so we’ll kick off our campaign during our World Down Syndrome Day celebration activities! Look for more details about our Amazing Give campaign and ways you can help us “do something amazing for our community” and the wonderful families we serve! Aimee Sinclair, our Special Events Intern, is a junior in the College of Journalism at the University of Florida. She is a Telecommunications Production major, with a concentration in English and Theatre. She is an aspiring television writer and film editor. Her social media savvy, graphic design skills, and writing prowess are perfect for her role! She is coordinating our World Down Syndrome Day Celebration, helping us plan for our signature spring fundraiser on April 22nd, managing our Dine for Down Syndrome monthly restaurant fundraisers, and helping us increase our social media presence. Aimee grew up with her Aunt Suzy who had Down syndrome…her work with GiGi’s helps her keep the love and lessons learned from her Aunt Suzy strong and impactful! Contact Aimee at email@example.com
We are truly humbled by the dedication of our interns and all our volunteers including our Literacy Tutors and Program Leads. We are 100% volunteer run–a fact that is both amazing and challenging. We continue to need the talents of wonderful volunteers to help us provide FREE purposeful programs to all of our families for many many more years.
Interested in sharing your talents and becoming a volunteer with us? Come to our next Volunteer Orientation scheduled for Monday, March 12th from 6-7:30pm at the Playhouse!
