Every single day people go through hard stuff…how people allow those experiences to influence who they are and what they do is what makes them #generationG.
When Ted and Karen Dreaver’s daughter, Kierra, was born on February 5, 2015, they had an at birth diagnosis and felt “alone and like nobody is going to understand.” Ted shared that at first, he didn’t even know about World Down Syndrome Day and what it was all about.
Since 2015, the Dreaver Family has become one of GiGi’s Playhouse Gainesville’s most amazing supporters in changing the way the world views individuals with Down syndrome! What started as a fun workout event at CrossFit Iron Legion, the Dreaver’s family owned and operated gym, to spread awareness about Down syndrome and build community has evolved to a powerful and fun fitness and fundraising competition. During the “Down for Donuts” family event, competitors participate in a functional fitness competition, outbid each other for awesome silent auction items, sport their cool Lifting Culture Apparel custom made event shirt, drink lots of coffee and of course eat lots of donuts!
GiGi’s Playhouse Gainesville is honored to receive 100% of the proceeds for this annual event! “We’re grateful for Ted and Karen’s unwavering commitment to help us provide free purposeful programs for our families,” said Erika Quirk, GiGi’s Playhouse Program Coordinator.
The Dreaver family views Down for Donuts as an opportunity to give back, have fun, and raise awareness about how awesome it is to have a child with Down syndrome.
They want families who are just beginning this journey to know that “everything is going to be ok and life is so much more fun!”
