Volunteer Spotlight: GiGi’s Playhouse Prepares High School Senior for Future Career

GiGi’s Playhouse Fort Wayne is 99 percent volunteer-led. Each year, we host multiple high school and college students for internships in our Playhouse. Read more about our incredible interns and the work they’re doing to assist with our free, purposeful programs in our volunteer spotlight series.

Tell us a little bit about yourself – the basics, year in school, extracurricular activities, etc.

I am a senior at Churubusco High School. I participate in volleyball, basketball, softball, and track through the school. I also participate in travel softball and 4-H.

Why did you choose GiGi’s Playhouse Fort Wayne for your internship?

I choose GiGi’s Playhouse as my place to internship because the moment I walked in for my interview, the staff was very welcoming and I felt like I was part of the family at GiGi’s. I knew right away GiGi’s was the place that I wanted to spend lots of hours during my week.

What do you enjoy about interning at GiGi’s Playhouse Fort Wayne?

I enjoy that every day is different. I love that every time I go into GiGi’s I am doing something new. I have also recently started tutoring at GiGi’s which has been an amazing and very heartwarming experience.

What is your favorite project or activity you’ve been a part of so far at the Playhouse?

My favorite activity that I have participated in while interning is helping in the Health Bar with Teya. I love interacting with the ambassadors and having many conversations with them as they are always bringing smiles to my face.

What your career goals and plans and how does GiGi’s Playhouse provide you with the experience to help you towards your future goals?

After I graduate, I plan on attending Saint Francis to obtain my BSN. Since my goal is to become a pediatric nurse, GiGi’s has helped me to become more confident in myself associating with children with many different personalities. GiGi’s has also allowed me to become more patient along with time management skills. I’m getting the tasks that I am assigned done before I must leave to go to practice.
