The beautiful Elizabeth.<\/p><\/div>\n

I was 38 when I found out prenatally that my daughter Elizabeth would have Down syndrome.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I did not have a lot of experience with individuals with Down syndrome and to be totally honest, it was my biggest fear as an older mom. My husband and I spent almost 6 months both believing we were ready for any challenge raising Elizabeth may bring, but we were \u00a0completely terrified at what the future may bring.\u00a0 I spent many a night in tears, worried about my baby\u2019s future.<\/p>\n

I am involved with GiGI\u2019s Playhouse because I don\u2019t want anyone else to fear their future.\u00a0 I wish that I had had access to a place like GiGi\u2019s when I was pregnant – a comfortable place for new families to come to receive information and support.\u00a0 As a member of the Board and chair of the Family Committee, I work to make GiGi\u2019s a place for parents to be able to both receive services for their children and learn from other parents who have been in their shoes.<\/p>\n

I cannot explain how wonderful GiGi\u2019s Playhouse has been for Elizabeth.\u00a0 It has been a place for Elizabeth to make new friends and learn new skills.\u00a0 Elizabeth has been able to take part in multiple programs at GiGi\u2019s Playhouse Fargo.\u00a0 She has taken part in Leaps & Bounds, a program for 3 \u2013 5 year olds that promotes social, emotional, and gross motor development.\u00a0 She also attended Little Fingers Big Plans, a program that promotes the foundations of early handwriting skills and fine motor skills.\u00a0 She also has taken part in the one-on-one literacy tutoring program.\u00a0 These programs give Elizabeth the skills she will need to succeed in school and in life.<\/p>\n

GiGi\u2019s Playhouse Fargo has been an invaluable asset for both Elizabeth and me.<\/p>\n
