Participant Spotlight: Jake– Growing, Playing, and Thriving at GiGi’s Playhouse

At GiGi’s Playhouse, our participants are at the center of everything we do. This month, we are excited to highlight Jake, an energetic and driven young adult who embodies the spirit of friendship, fun, and fitness.

Meet Jake

Jake is 18 years old and enjoys spending time with family and friends, going to the lake, shooting hoops, working out, and cheering on NDSU sporting events. His love for sports and active living shines through in everything he does at GiGi’s Playhouse.

Programs Jake Participates In

Jake is actively involved in several GiGi’s programs:

• Teen Tastic – a space to connect with peers and try new activities
• GiGi’s Kitchen Teen & Adult – learning skills in a fun, interactive environment
• Friends, Fun & Fitness – focusing on movement, health, and camaraderie

“These programs help me grow by staying active, making friends, and learning new skills,” Jake says.

Jakes’ Favorite Part About GiGi’s

For Jake, GiGi’s Playhouse is all about the people and the experiences. He loves seeing his friends, going to the gym to shoot hoops, attending dances, and participating in community events like Mama Mia, RedHawks, and Suite Shots.

“I like all of the volunteers and staff,” Jake shares. “They make it fun, welcoming, and special every time I come.”

A Memorable Moment

One of Jake’s favorite memories was a basketball event with the NDSU Men’s and Women’s teams, where he met coaches and players and got to play in the gym. “It was so much fun!” he recalls.

Celebrating Growth

Jake is currently celebrating his growing independence. By taking the MATBUS Paratransit to work at NDSU Equipment, he has gained confidence both at home and on the job.

“This is a big achievement for me,” Jake says proudly.
