GiGi\u2019s Playhouse Detroit is hosting a\u00a0road\u00a0rally\u00a0scavenger\u00a0hunt to kick off Down Syndrome Acceptance Month, which is in October.\u00a0<\/span>Down for the Hunt<\/span><\/a>\u00a0takes place\u00a0Sunday, October 3\u00a0from\u00a01-3\u00a0PM, with an after party from 3-5 PM.\u00a0\u00a0Teams will compete against one another by driving around in cars to unlock clues, complete tasks and challenges, with the goal\u00a0to be the first team across the finish.\u00a0<\/span> $40 per person includes a Down for the Hunt t-shirt and admission into the road rally. Price for individuals with Down syndrome is $20. Please note!\u00a0To guarantee a Down for the Hunt t-shirt with your\u00a0registration, you must submit registration\u00a0by midnight on Thursday, September 16!<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>The\u00a0aim\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0\u201cDown for the Hunt\u201d\u00a0event is to provide\u00a0a fun and safe\u00a0social activity\u00a0for\u00a0community members,\u00a0while also providing critical\u00a0funding to\u00a0support\u00a0the mission and free programs of GiGi\u2019s Playhouse Detroit.\u00a0The \u201cmystery locations\u201d will be centered around the Playhouse in Southfield and include Royal Oak, Birmingham, Troy and Beverly Hills.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Teams can be as big as their car, van or vehicle can hold. The top four teams will win big prize packages. The Road Rally will cap off with an after party from 3-5 PM in the back parking lot of the Playhouse, located at 19799 W. 12 Mile Road, Southfield, Michigan. The Down for the Hunt winning teams will be announced and prizes distributed. \u201cThe pandemic has drastically impacted our fundraising opportunities. Like many non-profits, we have pivoted to provide safe fundraising events for our community and those who support us,\u201d explains Lisa Kocab, GiGi\u2019s Playhouse Detroit Board President.<\/span>\u201cWith October being Down Syndrome Acceptance Month, this is the perfect time to safely connect, have fun, all while helping us continue serving hundreds of families in the Metro Detroit Down syndrome community.\u201d <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Proceeds\u00a0from the event\u00a0will help\u00a0GiGi\u2019s\u00a0Playhouse\u00a0continue\u00a0to provide\u00a0<\/span>free programs<\/span><\/a> to help individuals\u00a0withDown syndrome\u00a0<\/span>learn how to read<\/span><\/a>, improve\u00a0their\u00a0<\/span>health and wellness<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0improve their communication skills through\u00a0<\/span>free speech therapy<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0develop career skills, and reach their greatest potential.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"One family\u2019s experience with the\u00a0free\u00a0programs at GiGi\u2019s Playhouse Detroit\u00a0is the\u00a0Busque family. \u201cOur\u00a02-year-old\u00a0daughter\u00a0Maevis\u00a0has been going to\u00a0GiGi’s\u00a0Playhouse since she was 2 months old,\u201d says Maevis\u2019 Mom Rose Busque.\u00a0\u201cOur entire family has benefited from the free programs\u00a0GiGi’s\u00a0offers.\u00a0Maevis has picked up new ASL signs in\u00a0<\/span>LMNOP<\/span><\/a>\u00a0which has helped her communication soar. The\u00a0<\/span>GiGiFIT<\/span><\/a>\u00a0classes have helped her hit physical developmental milestones.\u00a0 We appreciate everything\u00a0GiGi’s\u00a0Playhouse has done for us, including the friendships we have made along the way.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
