Volunteer of the Year: Lauren Leotti

For those who missed our Lucky Have a Few gala last week, we had the absolute honor of presenting the Volunteer of the Year Award to someone truly exceptional—Lauren Leotti

Since the summer of 2021, Lauren has been an invaluable part of GiGi’s Playhouse Detroit, dedicating time, thoughtfulness, and heart to our mission.

She began as a general volunteer, assisting a variety of group programs with enthusiasm and kindness. From there, she committed to the important role of tutoring in both math and literacy, helping numerable participants grow in ability and confidence.

Among countless skills, Lauren is quick to think outside the box and uses many creative strategies to keep her students engaged and learning.

However, Lauren’s impact didn’t stop with tutoring. In the spring of 2024, she took on the role of Volunteer Coordinator, ensuring every new volunteer is properly oriented, prepared, and welcomed into our GiGi’s family.

Lauren doesn’t just lead—she leads by example. Whether she’s assisting programs, guiding participants, covering for other volunteers, helping with administrative tasks, or stepping in wherever support is needed (and usually involving her two sons!), her dedication radiates in everything she does.

Lauren’s commitment to GiGi’s Playhouse is more than just the time she gives (which is a lot!)—it’s the way she uplifts each individual, making them feel seen, valued, and capable. Her selflessness and passion make our Playhouse a brighter place. Her leadership, patience, and warmth have made an immeasurable impact, and we are beyond grateful to have her in this community.

On behalf of the board, staff and all the families at GiGi’s Playhouse Detroit, thank you and congratulations to Lauren, our Volunteer of the Year!
