George’s “Best of All”

Please enjoy this very special “Best of All” story submitted by Taylor, mother of George (age 5):

“Today was Georgie’s last day of the summer session of speech therapy at GiGi’s Playhouse Detroit! He made HUGE strides this session and came so far.

I never really know how to properly express things like this, but George is suddenly talking…very much. In a way that none of us saw coming this fast. We’re hearing 2-3 word sentences from him, and he repeats most things now. The journey of having a kiddo who doesn’t speak means that we don’t ever really know if or when these things are going to happen, and we’re along for the ride to celebrate at every moment. But if you told us at this time last year what George was doing today, I don’t know that i would believe you. I cry every time I think about how much this little human has accomplished and I am so, so lucky.

Thank you, GiGi’s Playhouse Detroit, for giving us the opportunity to watch our bug grow.”

The Amina Grace Speech & Language program may be run by graduate students from Wayne State University, but it’s evident they are already making a difference in the lives of people with Down syndrome, even before they obtain their license. Many families have made comments like, “[Our child] has made more progress in their speech sessions at GiGi’s than they’ve made with [our outpatient speech therapist.]” We LOVE our partnership with WSU and they continually say they love working at our Playhouse. Congratulations to George on your #BestofAll moment; we are truly honored to witness your journey!
