When our Board Members Bob and Jorja first brought up the idea of doing an Over the Edge fundraiser, several of our team thought they were crazy. That was over a year ago. Who knew we’d have such an incredible first ever Over the Edge event for GiGi’s Detroit? The response blew us away. And we could not have done without all our rappellers, volunteers and the amazing team from Over the Edge!
We are sending out a huge thank you to everyone who registered to rappel! From Moms and Dads who have kids with Down syndrome, to Aunts, Grandparents, siblings, friends, firemen, a Police Chief and of course our media champions! They all raised funds in so many incredibly creative ways to reach their goals to rappel.
Here’s a quick look at our first Over the Edge event by the numbers:
- 88 people registered to rappel
- 71 people actually rappelled
- More than $125,000 was raised!
The funds raised ensure the FREE programs we offer individuals with Down syndrome from birth through adults will continue to grow and reach more people!
But what truly tells the story are the amazing images our incredible photographers – Ryan Shaw and Ally Darin – captured!
We are so grateful to our media champions Ann Marie, Joey Radio and Amanda Chodnicki for all their help in raising awareness and also bravely stepping up to rappel down 26 stories for us!
You can watch WDET’s live coverage of Ann Marie LaFlamme rappelling!
We are still riding high from such an incredible weekend! Stay tuned for details later in the year on Over the Edge 2020!!
