Addie went from sounding out the words at the beginning to reading the words with fluency. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We had been practicing with a book for a few weeks and this past week she was able to read the entire book! It was so exciting for me as her tutor, but <strong>what was really wonderful was seeing Addie have the pride in herself with this accomplishment.<\/strong><\/p>\n<cite>-Jessi, Adelaide&#8217;s tutor<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\u00a0GiGi&#8217;s\u00a0Playhouse 1:1 Literacy Tutoring Program uses a methodology with documented success based on research by professionals in the field.\u00a0The ability to read opens doors for individuals with Down syndrome in the workplace, schools and the community.\u00a0\u00a0Developing reading skills also leads to improvements in speech and language development, auditory perceptual skills and working memory function.\u00a0\u00a0Our goal is to foster a love for reading and provide an opportunity to develop and master skills, all while building a positive relationship with our volunteer tutors.\u00a0\u00a0Trained tutors work at the level of the child, continually challenging and encouraging him\/her to reach their Best of All.\u00a0 Students can start in our program as early as age 3 or any year after that.
