Best of All: GiGiFIT Participants

Mr. Derick wants to give a big shout-out to all of our participants and volunteers who have made our transition to GiGiFIT this summer a successful one. You have really been giving your best of all!

Our GiGiFIT program leader, Derick, shared that each of our participants have been giving their Best of All since launching our program at the beginning of June.

“The transition from Friends, Fun, & Fitness has been smooth
and the participants are expressing their enjoyment with smiles,
laughter, and a little bit of sweat.”

We previously offered Friends, Fun, & Fitness bi-weekly. During this program, we focus on improving areas of fitness through different activities in strength, endurance, joint stability, balance, movement control and more. This summer, we transitioned the program to GiGiFIT, offered every week, to introduce the key movements (MMPT Principles) of foundational exercises, hip strengthening exercises, and vestibular/balance exercises, making them successful to implement and practice at any stage of life! We introduced the concept of nutrition journals and set goals to increase our water consumption and to make healthy choices.

Our FREE GiGiFIT programs combine physical therapy with a strong fitness focus and an ultimate goal of success and improved movement. GiGiFIT was created in collaboration with skilled Physical Therapists who work specifically with individuals with Down syndrome. The GiGiFIT programs are designed to address common issues for individuals with Down syndrome including hypotonia, excessive joint laxity, and decreased balance. Every GiGiFIT program is safe, effective, and progressive. GiGiFIT helps participants build strength, endurance, power, joint stability, balance, and movement control. GiGiFIT empowers participants to be more independent and confident in their abilities while improving their overall health and wellness

Thank you to all our participants and volunteers for making this transition smooth and purposeful!
