Stay Fit to Thrive!

By Doni Dondero

We all know that staying fit is important to our overall physical and mental health. GiGi’s Playhouse Annapolis is extremely fortunate to have Thrive Gym as one of its community partners, and one of the sponsors of the Playhouse’s Fit & Fun Gym, the colorful little tykes movement room that sports a soft floor, low and soft climbing challenges, and balls galore.

While GiGi’s and Thrive Gym had planned some fittingly fun collaborative activities that have been put on hold during the stay safe at home order from Governor Hogan, Thrive Gym is offering new online programs: Thrive-2 -Go and Thrive-at-Home, anyone can sign up for their online programs, you don’t have to have been in one of their programs prior to the stay at home order.  Classes include skill building, gross motor skills, balance activities, strength challenges and stretching. Be sure to check them out!

Here’s what GiGi’s families who are Thrive members say.

“Ainsley’s self-confidence has grown by attending Thrive.  In addition, her gross motor skills and balance have also strengthened.  She loves seeing all of the fantastic coaches and her classmates. We were beyond excited last year when Thrive  held a fundraiser event for GiGi’s Annapolis.  They asked Ainsley to help with the opening ceremonies.  Ainsley was honored.  Thrive has been so generous wanting to raise awareness and expectations for individuals with Down syndrome.” Amanda, GiGi’s parent

“My son Sean participates in many purposeful activities at GiGi’s Playhouse and Thrive.  Thrive has always been welcoming, inclusive and offers an opportunity to engage in movement based activities the develop his body and social skills.  I am so grateful for these local organizations for being a safe place to grow and learn.”   Tressa, GiGi’s parent

GiGi’s has also “gone virtual” with GiGi’s At Home, offering over 30 LIVE and On Demand programs for individuals with Down syndrome. Programs include music, cooking, fitness, sign language, social skills and more.

Families have great options, whether you choose a membership at Thrive Gym or GiGi’s Playhouse online programs, remember that keeping fit is always important, your local organizations are here for you, and all steps count in the #steptoaccept challenge! Thank you Thrive Gymnastics – a gym with heart!
