Being a Volunteer Makes Me Feel Proud!

Amanda manages the paint station during a TeenTastic art project.

Amanda Moore has been coming to GiGi’s Playhouse Annapolis since the opening in February 2018. She is an active participant at GiGi’s programs including Fantastic Friends, PiYo, Destination Discovery and she hasn’t missed a big DanceTastic Dance yet! She even assisted her Mom and friends in hosting a Fantastic Friends Ladies Tea Party, with fascinator hats and all! But Amanda was interested to get even more involved at GiGi’s, this time not just as a participant but as a Playhouse volunteer. She wanted to give back to GiGi’s.

Disco Night Dance was a favorite of Amanda’s!

Amanda completed the online Volunteer Interest Form and attended the Volunteer Orientation session. She decided she would like to help in the TeenTastic Program on Thursday evenings.

Amanda has taken on the role of being a successful volunteer seriously and contributes a lot to the TeenTastic program. She welcomes and encourages new participants joining the group, prepares snacks, assists program leaders as needed, and leads the crew doing a thorough clean up at the end of the evening. She is an integral part of the GiGi’s TeenTastic Team. Her co-volunteers say, “We love having Amanda as a reliable volunteer and she puts a lot of effort in her role and helps keep us on track.” Amanda states, “I have a whole lot of fun helping being a volunteer with people and meeting new friends.  Being a volunteer makes me feel proud.” Go Amanda, we value your input and support of the GiGi’s Playhouse Annapolis program.

Amanda juggles a full time job at Graul’s, a busy social life, enjoys advocating for individuals with Down syndrome, and is very active in Special Olympics Maryland. She is involved in the Healthy Athlete Leader Training and plans to do her practicum at GiGi’s Playhouse TeenTastic in the near future.

GiGi’s Playhouse participants attended WDSD celebration at the State House in March. Amanda met with First Lady Hogan.

Her Mom Lisa shares; “Volunteering with TeenTastic has made Amanda feel so needed and appreciated.  She feels so happy to be helping other people with special needs.”

As has been said of volunteers, Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart.” Amanda definitely has the heart!
