What kind of world do you want?

GiGi’s Playhouse Down Syndrome Achievement Centers empowers families with free therapeutic and educational programs they need for their child to succeed. From a prenatal diagnosis to career skills, we make a life time commitment to support more than 30,000 families across the United States, in Mexico, and throughout the world.

Recent reporting from “CBS On Assignment” and “60 Minutes Australia” spotlights two fundamental challenges. The first is a learned intolerance of people who appear different; particularly in countries where governments can mandate genetic screening tests. Incomplete, negative and hopeless views of a Down syndrome diagnosis cause parents to fear for the future of their child. In a culture that seemingly accepts terminating pregnancies of people who appears different: the long-term ethical implications are terrifying.

The second fundamental challenge is inadequate education and training for medical professionals to improve the delivery of a Down syndrome diagnosis. Far too often parents learn nothing about the future joys, possibilities and positive journeys; only the challenges and fears. Down syndrome is the most common genetic diagnosis in the United States and more than 450,000 people live with a diagnosis every single day. Children with Down syndrome attend school, play sports, join dance teams, create art and music, secure jobs and launch businesses, build friendships, and share their love with everyone around them.

In Iceland, Australia and our own communities, people who appear different face injustice and opposition to their very existence, acceptance and dignity. GiGi’s Playhouse serves as a solution to this opposition as well as a public champion for individuals with Down syndrome and their families. As a solution, we provide free, purposeful programs on a daily basis for people of all ages and their families. As a public champion, GiGi’s Playhouse advances a global vision of acceptance for all through our Generation G campaign: Be Accepting. Be Generous. Be Kind. Collectively, individuals with disabilities represent the single largest minority in the world, and GiGi’s Playhouse stands for all of them.

GiGi’s Playhouse fully supports a worldwide expansion of educational and training programs that help medical professionals deliver a Down syndrome diagnosis with greater objectivity, knowledge, and positive support. Simultaneously, GiGi’s Playhouse invites all medical professionals, expectant parents, government leaders, and members of the media to visit a GiGi’s Playhouse – in person or online – to better understand the acceptance, belief, confidence and opportunities that truly exist for individuals with Down syndrome and their families.

Please join GiGi’s Playhouse Down Syndrome Achievement Centers in our commitment to ensure individuals with Down syndrome have a voice in our society, acceptance in their communities, and opportunities to achieve their “Best of All”. Together we can create the change the world: one child, one diagnosis, one community at a time.
