New Volunteer Leadership
Welcome Kaitlyn Wafful, our new Literacy Program Co-Coordinator!  Kaitlyn has been working with our current Literacy Program Coordinator, Mary Carroll, as a tutor and assistant for over a year.  With Mary returning to teaching and working on her Master’s, she was delighted to have Kaitlyn set-up as Co-Coordinator.  Kaitlyn has her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Lemoyne College and is certified to teach birth – 6th grade regular and special education.  She is currently working on her Master’s Degree and certification in Literacy (B-6th) at Lemoyne.  We are so excited to have Kaitlyn join our leadership team here at the Playhouse!

We would also like to welcome Jennifer Ronan and Susan Hayes-Penhollow.  Jennifer and Susan are currently enrolled at Utica College completing their Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy.  They will be taking the lead role in developing and implementing the Preschool Prep Program being offered early October.
 
Jennifer has an elementary education and psychology degree from Russell Sage College.   She taught Kindergarten and 6th grade for few years.  Then stayed home to raise 3 children who are now 16, 15 and 11.  During this time she was the activity coordinator and then president of our local CNY Mommy and Me organization. Jennifer also taught at Baldwinsville nursery school and UCC in bayberry. 
 
Susan Hayes-Penhollow is a certified elementary school counselor with eleven years’ experience.  She is a mother of two. Susan is currently working toward a Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy at Utica College, with a concentration in child development and education. 
 

Preschool Prep

Wednesday Mornings beginning October 8th ending November 12 10-:00 am – 11:30 am

The PreSchool Program will prepare children for preschool and reinforce home therapy tasks in a structured environment.  The daily schedule will include the same format each week providing consistency and structure.  Transitions to different rooms will be incorporated throughout the morning using picture cards.  Each activity will last 20 minutes with a 5 minute circle time opening and closing each day.
Music Time – Sensory Time – Gym Time – Snack Time

Nutrition and Healthy Eating…Program Leader Scott Crandall

Beginning Tuesday September 30th 6:00 – 7:30 pm for ages 12 and up (4th Tuesday of each month) 

Goals:
·        Increase safety awareness when using a variety of cooking tools
·        Provide hands-on education on the basics of cooking and baking, education on healthy ingredients, following recipe directions and understanding basic nutritional facts

We are looking to start a few more amazing programs and need YOU! 

Kids Clubhouse (9-13) – This program will help promote friendships, social skills and peer
interactions through creative and social activities.
2&Under Busybodies – Program Description: Join our playgroup! We’re moving, grooving and laughing along the way.
Busy Bodies is the perfect place for children two and under to meet new friends, learn and grow,
while parents have the opportunity to socialize and network with one another. Siblings are
welcome!
LMNOP (Language Music and our Peeps)  – Program Description: Language, Music N’ Our Peeps (LMNOP) guides parents and infants through
learning basic sign language and through incorporating music and dance therapy into daily
activities, to stimulate the child. Recommended for children 6-36 months old.
Crawlers –  Program Description: To facilitate and strengthen gross motor skills in children who are working
toward achieving the developmental stage of crawling. Little Milestones is primarily a gross motor
group, but we will also incorporate fine motor, sensory awareness, social interaction, and language
skills. Children should be demonstrating emerging crawling skills.

As we come up on our 2nd annivsary we are so excited to see the Playhouse growing stronger and becoming a well known presence in Upstate New York, thank you again to everyone who has had a hand in building, supporting and cheering us on. Together we are STRONGER!
