Locations In the Works

Welcome to the home of our “emerging” playhouses. Thanks to the amazing generosity, dedication and vision of parents and educators throughout the country (and beyond), GiGi’s Playhouse is expanding its national footprint of no-fee programs and community building.

Below you will find current listings of emerging locations; all in the process of raising money to open their own playhouse. Please consider supporting their efforts, so they can help hundreds of families in their own communities!

GiGi’s Playhouse is one of the only Down syndrome organizations in the country with permanent, brick & mortar locations offering customized, no-fee programming. At GiGi’s Playhouse, we celebrate our individuals and families, and turn belief into action!  Every single day, volunteers and tutors make a huge impact by facilitating meaningful and measureable outcomes to our individuals and families. Every day, another child learns to read. Every day, another child improves their fine motor functions. Every day, another family gets closer to celebrating their child’s diagnosis.

GiGi’s Playhouse effectively manages its various program costs. While programs are always free to our families, they are not free to GiGi’s Playhouse. In addition to build out costs, we will need generous support for updating and constructing custom program materials, growing our literacy libraries, creating training manuals and seminars for multiple site coordinators and volunteer tutors, and researching new programs.

Your generosity can truly transform lives. Our collective gratitude can been found in the smiles of thousands of children benefiting from our programs every week. It can be found in our learning labs every time a new word is articulated; every time a new color is memorized; every time an equation is solved; and every time our individuals’ unbridled courage is extended an opportunity to grow.

Welcome to the future web home of a new GiGi’s Playhouse serving South Central Wisconsin.

Did you know that in Wisconsin only 22% of school-aged children with disabilities read at a proficient level, and that only 14.2% are proficient in math?

We know that adults and children with Down syndrome have the potential to do anything their typically developing counterparts can do.  But, it takes a combination of more time and effective therapies to help people Down syndrome fulfill that potential.   Individuals with Down syndrome can, and do, live independently, maintain employment, go to college, become strong leaders, and much more if given the opportunity.

That is why we at the Madison Area Down Syndrome Society are excited to partner with GiGi’s Playhouse to create a physical space where adults and children with Down syndrome in South Central Wisconsin can receive free research-proven educational tutoring and therapeutic programs,  and where people with or without disabilities can learn about community resources and celebrate life together.

Together, we can do something about low reading and math proficiency, low integrated employment numbers and so much more.

El Paso,TX

elpasoTarget Opening:  May 2014

The first GiGi’s Playhouse in Texas is on its way!

The inspiration for our quest to establish GiGi’s Playhouse in El Paso is a little different for each of us in our group. Some of us are educators who have had students with Down syndrome in our schools and classrooms. Some of us have personal experience with friends or family members with Down syndrome. And some of us just want to pay it forward and make a better world for these individuals in our area. But we all share one common thread in our quest: to give these individuals a voice and to give them the opportunity to become all they can be.

The main goals that our group is seeking to accomplish are:

  • to inspire our community to take action and establish GiGi’s Playhouse to serve the individuals living with Down syndrome in the El Paso, Las Cruces and Juarez metropolitan area
  • to break down old beliefs about Down syndrome by spreading positive and accurate information
  • to empower individuals with Down syndrome and their families

Mother Teresa once said, “We think sometimes that poverty is only being hungry, naked and homeless. The poverty of being unwanted, unloved and uncared for is the greatest poverty. We must start to remedy this kind of poverty.” We are proud to be taking the first steps to establish a GiGi’s Playhouse in El Paso and championing these individuals with Down syndrome in our area. Our reward will be watching them grow and thrive and enrich our community.

BECOME A PART OF OUR GROWING COMMUNITY:  Add your name to our email list to receive ongoing updates about GiGi’s Playhouse and our progress here in El Paso.  Click HERE to get on our mailing list.

VOLUNTEERS:  At this stage, we need business professionals to be a part of our growing board of managers, commercial real estate guidance on seeking a location, construction professionals for when we start our build-out, and go-getters to help raise funds and spread the word.  Going forward, we’ll also need program volunteers to help staff our programs too.  Click HERE to volunteer.

DONATIONS:  We’re about a third of the way toward our financial goal to have our first year’s programming and build-out expenses contributed before opening.   Help us reach our goal!

GiGi’s Playhouse is coming to Milwaukee!!!

Our team of people working hard to bring GiGi’s to Milwaukee consists of educators, social workers, therapists, lawyers, and business executives.  When GiGi’s first opened its doors ten years ago, the world was given a glimpse of what people with Down syndrome can accomplish.  We know that a person with Down syndrome can learn anything and can do anything!!! The reading and math programs we will offer have been specifically designed for how children with Down syndrome learn.  These programs will help ensure that our kids will find success in full inclusion programs in their local school districts.  The playgroups are therapeutic in nature and will aid in reaching developmental milestones.  Parents will have an instant support network from the moment they walk through our doors.  Having a GiGi’s in Milwaukee will mean children and adults with Down syndrome are going to be given a boost so that they can reach their fullest potential.  It means having a physical resource center for parents to go to for information.  It means having a place where a person with Down syndrome can walk into and be given the opportunity for experiences that will empower them to succeed.  It means changing the outdated perceptions that society has on what a Down syndrome diagnosis means.   Our projected opening is September 2014.

BenGGPCentral New Jersey

Target Grand Opening:  October 2014

GiGi’s Playhouse is coming to Central New Jersey!

Our team of accomplished professionals and parents is working hard to bring GiGi’s to Central New Jersey! When GiGi’s first opened its doors ten years ago, the world was given a glimpse of what people with Down syndrome can accomplish.  We as a committee know that a person with Down syndrome can learn and can do anything and we want to show that to the rest of the community in New Jersey as well. The reading and math programs we will offer have been specifically designed for how children with Down syndrome learn. These programs will help ensure that our kids will find success in full inclusion programs in their local school districts.  The playgroups are therapeutic in nature and will aid in reaching developmental milestones. The life skills training opportunities will help our adult individuals with Down syndrome show the community what they are capable of in employment. The social opportunities that we will offer will be not only for individuals with Down syndrome, but siblings, friends and classmates in order to encourage our vision of inclusion.

Parents will have an instant support network from the moment they walk through our doors.  Having a GiGi’s Playhouse in Central New Jersey will mean children and adults with Down syndrome are going to be given a boost so that they can reach their fullest potential. It means having a physical resource center for parents and other family members to go to for information. It means having a place where a person with Down syndrome can go and be given the opportunity for experiences that will empower them to succeed to their highest potential.  We aim to change the outdated perceptions that society has on what a Down syndrome diagnosis means by showing the Central New Jersey community what adults and children with Down syndrome are capable of. Our projected opening is October 2014.

GiGi’s Playhouse is coming to Utah!

Educate, Inspire and Believe; those were the words that stuck in Brittanie Flint’s head when she first learned about GiGi’s Playhouse. She a child with Down syndrome who is almost two years old and when she saw the GiGi’s website she was instantly drawn and wanted to learn more. She wanted to provide a place for her son, Linkon, and all the individuals with Down syndrome in her community with a place that is their very own.  Brittanie has now joined with a diverse team including Kim Strube, Missy Warwood, Alex Harris and Kyla Parker to help make that happen.

GiGi’s Playhouse is a very unique organization.  It teaches everyone around that if you have a dream and are willing to put in the work, anything is possible! This will be the first GiGi’s Playhouse in the state of Utah, and hopefully, it will spark interest in other cities and states in the West.

Our dream is to be able to provide a place where individuals with Down syndrome can dream, have their own goals and most importantly reach their full potential. GiGi’s provides individuals with Down syndrome the power to be anyone they want to be and to not limit themselves.  The goal is to provide a place that promotes fun, awareness, therapeutic, social and many other opportunities to learn and grow, at no cost to the child or to their family.

We are in the very beginning stages of organizing the startup team to be able to open on our target date of January 3, 2015. In order to provide this wonderful playhouse to the state of Utah, we have to raise an estimated $100,000. That is where we need the community any other additional outside help to reach our goal.

GiGi’s Playhouse in Davis County will give people with Down syndrome their own special place to reach their maximum potential.  We also will be raising awareness and educating everyone in the community that people with Down syndrome are no different than you or I.  They CAN achieve anything. It is amazing what a little bit of expectations and encouragement will do. This center will benefit everyone in the community and it will be an amazing experience to be able to witness this first hand.
