November 25, 2013 (URBANDALE, IA):
GiGi’s Playhouse Down Syndrome Achievement Centers announced 4 prestigious awards at its 10th Anniversary International Conference in Schaumburg, Illinois on Saturday, November 9. The “Super Star” award is given to a Playhouse that continually displays excellence in all aspects of mission readiness, programming, business operations and fundraising events. GiGi’s Playhouse Des Moines was honored with this award. As Playhouses nationwide seek input and guidance from their peers, they often turn to the team in Des Moines to leverage their best practices. The Des Moines Playhouse has strong communications with their families, and run their Playhouse with professionalism on all fronts. The Des Moines location prides itself in providing a solid support network for area families, as well. “Des Moines commitment to the mission, families, programs and outreach represents the very best of GiGi’s Playhouse,” says founder Nancy Gianni. “Des Moines is all always ahead of the curve and pushing boundaries with new events and new opportunities—and always with a smile on their face. They inspire us internally every day, and we could not be prouder to award them the Super Star.”

Other Playhouses receiving awards at the 2013 International Conference included Quad Cities (IL), Twin Cities (MN), and Indianapolis (IN). In total, GiGi’s Playhouse currently operates 16 Playhouses worldwide and plans to open at least four new locations in 2014. Members of the community are invited to visit the Des Moines Playhouse and inquire about ways in which they can help support individuals with Down syndrome. GiGi’s Playhouse offers 30 different therapeutic and educational programs at no charge to individuals with Down syndrome and their families. Distinct locations, programs designed for the learning styles of children and adults with Down syndrome, and an unwavering commitment to positive belief are some of the many qualities that set GiGi’s Playhouse apart as a truly distinct nonprofit organization.

Gianni adds, “Our unbelievable donors want to support Playhouses like Des Moines, and the amazing children and adults using the Des Moines Playhouse. Participants want nothing more than to use their voice and their skills to make their own dreams come true. Year by year, we plan to extend many more families the chance to build their confidence and belief, and see their children succeed. Playhouses like Des Moines make this dream a reality. One child, one diagnosis and one community at time: we lend our voice to their voice, and help make dreams come true.”
