A Follow Up About Jeff!
At almost 40 years old, Jeff’s dream is to get a job at McDonald’s. His sister brought him to GiGi’s for literacy tutoring in an attempt to retrieve some dormant skills. From day one, Jeff has come to weekly tutoring with a pen in his pocket and a smile on his face. His Mom–not so much. Jeff’s Mom was very reluctant to let Jeff go, as he has been her constant companion since finishing school at the age of 22. Jeff’s sister insisted and traveled a few hours each Saturday to bring him in. With a little push here and there, Jeff is now writing his name, address, and phone number all by himself. When I send homework with him, it now comes back…with notes from Mom!!! Within the last few weeks, he has really surprised me by starting to read beginner books. His Mom has been teaching him how to sound out words at home, so now we are working as a team to achieve his goal. I’m very excited and proud to say that Jeff will be starting his FIRST JOB next week as a janitor in a local school district…not McDonald’s just yet, but I know that we will see him there one day really soon!!!Polly–Volunteer Tutor
It’s never to late to learn new things – way to go Jeff! Good for you for working hard to achieve your goals! GiGi’s and it’s volunteers are amazing!
This is super awesome! Way to go, Jeff! <3
Way to go Jeff, you can do anything. Keep working hard. 🙂
Great job Jeff! !
I love this story! I would be interested to know how Jeff likes his new job and if maybe he decides he likes it better than he may have liked McDonalds. I’m hoping Jeff new job is in my school district and I see him at school soon. : )
Jeff- All of us in your family are very proud of you. This is great to see. So happy things fell into place and that your older sister persisted!
Way to go Jeff’s mom. Yes it is hard to let go. You have put all your “MOMMA BEAR” skills in place to get Jeff through each day. It was tough out there
Being a mom I know. I too calmed my “MOMMA BEAR” skills down to allow my son to go to a special program at a university hundreds of miles away. My son did fine, as well.
Sometimes when we moms perceive danger everywhere and there is evidence of that we keep those skills up for too long. But our sons are blossoming just great and ready to meet the world on their own. We can find peace and let them go to live life— it’s ups and downs
Great job Jeff, carry on!!
Congratulations Jeff on a job well done.
Nice work Jeff, keep reaching your goal. We are proud of you.
